Noel Whelan began his business in 1995, designing and manufacturing furniture for the high end of the market, A fully qualified carpenter trained in Dublin in 1985 at Fás and Bolton St. College, Noel has a reputation for the design and manufacture of exceptionally high standard furniture. Noel's contemporary furniture are all his own designs and each piece is original. His work has featured on the late late Enterprise Show and he was runner up at the county finals of the National Enterprise Awards in 1998.

Throughout the development of the business, Noel has had continuous support from Waterford County Enterprise Board. Beginning in 1995 with two employment grants, further employment grants were made available in 1996 and 2001, as Noel’s business continued to expand.

Ger Enright, CEO of Waterford County Enterprise Board had this to say about Noel’s success ‘Noel has always been great to take part in training programmes over the years and in our experience, the most successful business people are those who are most willing to take new information on board’.

Supported by the enterprise board, Noel has also been a regular at exhibitions including a recent trip to the furniture fair in Milan. Noel also had a very successful show at the Furniture Exhibition at Fota House in Cork in October of last year. This exhibition is at the very high end of design and it is tremendous to see a local business being represented there.

At present he is marketing some of his products to the Japanese and American markets. Noel Whelan Furniture currently employs five staff and plans steady growth over the next number of years.
